Ebony dressed himself in Daniel’s room, coming out when he was done. Daniel led him to the door, and down the hall. Daniel paused by the elevator, and then kept walking. Best not to take that again. He led him down the stairs, to his car. They drove to a nearby department store where Daniel parked, leading him inside.

“Pick whatever you want. Just, try not to go over thirty for a single item,” Daniel smiled. Ebony nodded, and walked around. He ended up in the women’s section, picking out all kinds of clothes he really liked, checking each tag before handing some to Daniel. He was surprised to find out Ebony cross-dressed, and as a result, when they got near the undergarments section, he had to cover his eyes. Otherwise, his mind would do inappropriate things. Ebony soon picked out a moderate selection, and smiled.

“I think that’s good. I don’t want you to buy too much,” Ebony said, flicking his tail some. “Can I try them on first?”

“Yeah, sure,” Daniel led the other to the changing rooms, and handed him the clothes he had picked out for himself. Ebony took them, and changed into the first outfit. When he came out, he twirled some to showcase the outfit better in a 360-degree view.

“So? I kinda like it.”

“L-Looks good,” Daniel blushed at the short hot pants, and the pink and grey color blocked hoodie. There went that feeling again, but this time, it was mixed with slight lust. He looked away, and nodded, turning away slightly. “Maybe you should pick yourself. I’m no good with this kind of stuff.”

Ebony didn’t understand his reaction, and sighed. “Oh, okay.” Heading back on, Ebony tried everything else on, and tossed out a few things he didn’t like. It wasn’t long until he came out in his ‘normal clothes’, smiling. “Okay, I’m done.”

Daniel nodded, and together they put back the clothes Ebony didn’t want, taking the rest to the register. The cashier talked about the other’s purchases, referring to a girlfriend she assumed he had.

“A-ah… well, you could say that,” he said, realizing the cashier couldn’t see Ebony standing right beside him.

Forty minutes later, the two were driving to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Ebony seemed happy with his clothing purchases, and continued to thank his human companion.

“Really, Eb, it’s fine. You don’t need to keep thanking me,” Daniel chuckled, pulling into a parking spot in the restaurant parking lot.

“Well, I just want you to know how grateful I am,” Ebony mumbled. Daniel paused, not getting out.

“Ah, shit… they can’t see you in here. I’ll just order takeout. What do you want?”

“What do they have?”

“Just, basically Chinese food.”

“Oh, then, like, lo mein and orange chicken?”

“That what you want?”

“Mm-hmm,” Ebony gave a small nod, and crossed his calves, holding onto the car’s seat.

“Mm-kay, be back in twenty,” Daniel reassured him, and hopped out, going in to order their food.

Ebony waited in the car, looking around. He wondered if him not being visible to humans caused problems for Daniel. Sighed, he realized that people who saw them talking probably thought Daniel was crazy, that he was talking to air. But if he was visible, then those pesky beasts would- he didn’t even want to think about it. Who knew what they would do? They were unpredictable. They could scream and run, which would admittedly be an appropriate reaction, given what they were used to seeing. Though, they could take him in for experimentation… or they might bombard him with questions.

Every possibility he thought of was so much hassle. Besides, it wasn’t like he could just, make himself visible. He sighed, looking out at the now setting sun. He’d known Daniel for a day, but something in him just allowed him to trust this human unconditionally. He couldn’t explain it, and he didn’t want to try to. He just wanted to accept it for what it was, as infuriating a thing as it was. Daniel came back with a large unmarked paper bag, passing it to Ebony.

“Sorry it took so long, they were kinda busy,” Daniel explained.

“It’s fine, I could have waited longer.” Ebony could smell the lo mein from there, and his stomach growled loudly. Ebony chuckled softly. “Ah, s-sorry. I haven’t eaten since this morning.”

“Why not?” Daniel asked, concerned.

“W-Well, you were gone, and I wasn’t sure what I was allowed to eat.”

Daniel sighed, glad it wasn’t some kind of eating disorder. “Well, from now on, before I go, I’ll leave you some things to eat, okay?”

Ebony nodded, and held the food. They arrived home shortly after, and went back up the steps, Daniel unlocking the apartment door. They walked inside, and unloaded the contents of the paper bag onto the table, and soon, it was covered in containers. They both used the included chopsticks, and talked about their day.

As Ebony conveyed his love for the other’s books once more, Daniel again felt that odd feeling in his chest. Like something was pulling him. He again ignored it, and they ate their dinner, enjoying each other’s company. Daniel took a bite of his shrimp fried rice, then stole a piece of Ebony’s orange chicken. The demon squeaked, covering his container, huffing.

“Hey!” Ebony smirked, moving in to steal some of the other’s shrimp. “Ha!” Ebony exclaimed after successfully stealing one, and popping it in his mouth.

“Food stealer!” Daniel challenged, smiling.

“Pah, me? You did it first!” Ebony laughed. Daniel chuckled, and took another bite of his own food.

After dinner, they played some more Candy Land, Ebony continuing to win. He smiled each time, and Daniel demanded a rematch. They had so much fun, they again lost track of time. Finally, Daniel looked up from a card to move his piece, and saw his demonic roommate asleep on the couch. He chuckled softly, and stood, picking the cute male up, carrying him to bed. Laying him down gently, Daniel covered him up with a smile.

“Good night, Eb.”

The next morning, Ebony woke up a little later, around eleven am, and looked around. He was in Daniel’s bed again. Blinking, he rubbed his eyes, yawning. He’d changed into the other’s shirt once more last night, before they’d begun to play the game. Looking to the sleeve as it folded back on itself.

“Mn,” he soon smelled delicious food again. Getting up to investigate, Ebony stretched, and walked out, smiling.

“Morning sleepyhead. I made breakfast again.”

“I could tell. It smells good, as usual,” the demon complimented, sitting at the table, waiting for his plate. He was brought a plate of bacon and eggs, with some hash browns on the side. Ebony ate happily, thanking the other for the meal, stuffing his face. “It’s really good.”

Daniel smiled, and sat across from him. “Thank you.”

He wouldn’t admit it, but he loved being able to cook for someone. This demon seemed to love everything he did, which meant he was either easily impressed, or just a simpleton. Ebony smiled, and ate happily, till he’d finished. He stood, going to sit on the couch.

“Oh, Eb. I have to work today, but I’m off tomorrow. I made you some sandwiches for lunch, and you can have those cheese puffs over there for a snack.” Daniel told him as he washed the dish for him. Ebony nodded, and smiled.

“Thank you,” Ebony turned back to the TV, holding the remote up. “How do you work this?”

Daniel dried his hands after cleaning the dish, and came out, showing him. “I have to get to work, so I’ll see you. Don’t forget about the food, okay?”

Ruffling the other’s hair, Daniel left, going to the door, closing and locking it behind him. Ebony watched TV for some time, until he grew bored, and went back to reading his roommate’s works. He was impressed a mere human could write so well. Eventually he couldn’t stop reading. He had soon read all the books the other had published, and sighed.

He needed something to do. He watched more TV until his stomach growled, which was when he stood to get the sandwiches. Taking them to the couch with him, he began eating. Everything Daniel made was so good. Ebony didn’t understand it, but he wouldn’t question it. After all, he’d been so lucky to be able to live here, and be served delicious food. He started to feel bad that he wasn’t contributing back. But there wasn’t much he could do anyway.

Looking around, he sighed. Maybe housework? But Daniel’s house was already pretty clean. Though, there were some places that he could clean. After he ate, he cleaned his dish, and set about picking up the other’s clothes in his room, and putting the dirty ones in the clothes basket. He cleaned the sink and tub, and whatever else he could, and finished just in time. When Daniel returned, he went out to greet the other, smiling.

“Welcome back,” he said with a wave.

Daniel chuckled, and set down his bag, “thanks.”

“I cleaned some for you, since you did so much for me,” Ebony said with a smile, his tail dancing around behind him.

“Eb, you didn’t have to, but you know what, I appreciate the gesture. Thank you.”

Ebony nodded, seeming proud of himself, and grinned. Daniel felt the pull in his chest again at the smile, and chuckled, walking to the kitchen to get a drink.

“Oh, I should tell you, I always have Saturdays off. All the other days off I get, I have to do volunteer work at the animal shelter,” Daniel said, and came back out to sit with Ebony on the couch.

“Oh, okay. What kinds of animals?” Ebony asked, sitting with him.

“All kinds. Mostly dogs and cats though.”

“Oh. Is it fun?”

“Most of the time. I walk the dogs, and feed them and the cats, so it isn’t too hard a job,” Daniel explained, sipping at his can of root beer. Ebony nodded, and settled into the couch, cuddling a pillow. They sat watching TV for some time, until Ebony again fell asleep on the couch. Daniel smiled some at how cute the sleeping demon was. He gently picked Ebony up, carrying him to bed. He laid him down, covered him, and brushed some of the other’s hair out of his eyes.

“Good night,” Daniel whispered, and left his room, going out to sleep once again on the couch for the night.
